I like how John leaves Mansfield where he lives to protect his family. As shown in the book,"When I got home, the suit cases were packed," John left town to keep is kids safe. John came back to face the people of his own race and his friends. They wouldn't says anything to him or wave. They just glared. As shown in the book,"The husband lifted his head from weeding and glared at me when I drove past." I think he is setting a great example for his kids by not running away from his fears. He's standing up for what he believes in.
